Edmund Clayton Strecker

Edmund Clayton Strecker, age 74 of Delray Beach, passed away on Monday, February 11, 2013. He was born in Port Jefferson, NY to Edmund and Emeth Strecker on October 23, 1938. After serving his nation as a member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, Clayton relocated to South Florida in 1962. Thus beginning his long love affair with the sensibilities, rhythms and lifestyle of old Florida that remained ingrained in him until his passing. From 1964-1991 Clayton established and ran Strecker Marine, Inc., one of the premier marine installation companies of the era. Through his love of outdoor work and the relationships he built, Clayton was responsible for much of the South Florida intra-coastal marine infrastructure seen today. In 1989, he acquired his agricultural property in West Delray which he called Alice’s in honor of the previous owner. It was here, under the whispering Australian Pines blowing in the warm breeze, that Clayton truly connected and manifested the Old Florida lifestyle he loved so dearly. Clayton will be remembered for his smile, contagious laugh and larger than life personality. But most of all, he will be remembered for his kind, generous spirit and open heart towards all people, regardless of their circumstance or station. He will truly be missed by a wide-cross section of friends, family and acquaintances whose lives he touched in so many ways over the years. Clayton is survived by his devoted wife, Holly Saunders, and two loving daughters Dawn and Worth Strecker. Services will be held at Alice’s Farm in April (time and date TBD). Donations may be made to Delray Historical Society in his honor. http://www.delraybeachhistory.org/
