Adrienne R.
Nelson
December 19, 1950 – May 11, 2022
Adrienne Reilly Nelson, 71, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer.
Adrienne was born on December 19, 1950 in New York, NY, the daughter of the late Adele and Bernard Reilly. She graduated high school from Convent of the Sacred Heart in Manhattan, and received a B.A. from Finch College, M.A. in Education from Hunter College, and J.D. from Fordham Law School.
Friends are reminded of her kindness, "joie de vivre", humility and her ability to brighten up a room with her warm smile and cheerful disposition. Universally well-liked, she developed friendships effortlessly and was a loyal friend to many.
Adrienne worked for over forty years in private banking and trust and estates. She began her career at Bankers Trust and Morgan Guaranty in New York City. She worked for many years at Bank of America and predecessor banks, ultimately becoming Private Bank Market Executive for the Washington, DC area. Following a desire to work more directly with clients, she served as a Region Trust Advisor and Senior Vice President for over 15 years at SunTrust Bank in Washington, DC and South Florida. Colleagues highlight her friendship, intelligence and commitment to helping her clients. Outside of work, she served on the boards of the Washington National Opera and The Dallas Opera. She also was a member of the Board of Governors of St. Andrews Club.
Most of all, Adrienne was dedicated to family. Her sons will forever remember her caring nature, selflessness, sense of humor, and practical advice, often delivered during car rides with them. She always prioritized family time, loved planning memorable trips, and cherished the little moments and joys together.
When confronted with her cancer diagnosis, she reacted with characteristic strength and resilience. She focused on living life to the fullest and enjoying time with family and friends, while she stoically battled the disease.
She is survived by her husband of over 40 years, Robert Nelson, two sons, John (Jillian) and Mark Nelson (Ewelina), two sisters, Nancy (Sheldon) Prentice and Adele Grant, granddaughter, Lily Nelson, and sister-in-law, Bijette Gebron (Jim). They will all miss her dearly.
