Obituary

Alan I. Armour entered into eternal peace on August 18, 2018. Alan is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara, and three children and their spouses: Alison and Mike Troy, Alan and Jackie Armour and Christina and Jaime Brito. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Kristyn, Ty, Dylan and Christopher; his sister, Edna Armour Warren and numerous nieces and nephews. Alan is the son of Norman and Edna Conrad Armour, and is predeceased by his sister, Jean Armour Hunt, and brother, Norman Armour.

Alan was born in 1929 in Los Angeles, California. He lived in Mill Valley, California before moving to Chicago, Illinois at a young age. He and his parents moved to Palm Beach County in 1949. He attended the University of Chicago and University of Miami before the Korean War. Afterwards, he received his Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Florida. Alan proudly served for 7 years in the U.S. Army, stationed primarily in Japan during the Korean War. He was a graduate of the prestigious U.S. Army Ranger School, attained the rank of Lieutenant and was a battalion commander for the elite "Rakkasans", 187 th Airborne Regimental Combat Team. In 1959, he began his 35 year career with the securities firm Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner and Smith in Delray Beach, FL. He attained the position of Vice President as well as a member of the Charles E. Merrill Circle. Alan actively served his community, as a Trustee and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Delray Beach, President of the Delray Beach Playhouse Board, Chairman of Old School Square Board, Town Commissioner and Vice Mayor of the Town of Gulf Stream and member of the Rotary Club.

He loved the outdoor world and travel. Alan was an avid golfer, sailor, fisherman, scuba diver, canoer, hiker, camper and gardener. He cherished sailing in the Abaco Islands in the Bahamas with his family and friends on the "O'Babe".

Alan, Barbara and family lived in the Boca Raton and Delray Beach areas since 1959. The last years of Alan's life were happily spent in Maine and Florida. Alan and Barbara have lived at the Delray Dunes Golf & Country Club in Boynton Beach since the year 2000.

There will be a private family service at First Presbyterian Church of Delray Beach.  A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held in the Fall for family and friends to come together in remembrance. The family wishes to thank the doctors and caregivers who eased the burden of Parkinson's Disease during Alan's valiant 20 year struggle. God bless them all.

He will be forever respected, missed and loved by all.
