Albert L. "Bob" Miller of Boynton Beach, Florida was called to his heavenly home on December
31, 2017.
Bob was born in Delray Beach, Florida on November 8, 1921 and was baptized five days later at Trinity Lutheran Church, which his grandfather had been a founding member of in 1904. Bob attended Delray Beach Elementary and was a graduate of Delray Beach High School's class of 1941.
During his school years Bob was a member of Boy Scout Troop #1, the first troop in Palm Beach County, which his father had founded in 1914. Bob devoted himself to scouting, earning his Eagle Scout Badge in 1938 and remaining a steadfast advocate of the Boy Scouts his entire life.
After high school, Bob enlisted in the US Army Air Corps where he served as an aircraft electronics technician on B-24 bombers in the European Theater during World War II. Upon completion of his military service he graduated from Bell Isles College in West Palm Beach with a degree in business administration and spent the bulk of his career with Rinker Materials Corporation where he served at multiple management levels.
Always civic-minded, Bob served terms as president of Delray Beach's Junior Chamber of Commerce, the Lake Worth Chamber of Commerce, and the Rotary Club of Lake Worth. Bob was an outdoor enthusiast who learned to fly small aircraft, enjoyed fishing, boat racing, camping, and skiing among other interests. He continued many of these hobbies well into his later years often outpacing and outlasting those many years junior to him.
Bob was especially dedicated to his Church, Trinity Lutheran Church of Delray Beach, and dedicated untold hours of service to the Church, School, and its members. Bob served innumerable roles within Trinity through the years including Congregational President, multiple chairman and board positions, Bible study leader, usher, communion assistant, construction foreman, and also sang in the choir for 68 years. In 2009, he authored a history of Trinity Lutheran in the Book 100 Years of God's Grace: 1904 – 2004.
Bob is survived by his sister Norma M. Brown, nephews John Miller, Jr. (Karen), and Tim Miller, his niece Rebecca Miller, grand-nephews Jack and Luke Miller, cousins Linda Oxford, Steve Friberg, Jerry Lang, Joyce Sheppard, John Wuepper, Kathleen Skomp, and Margaret Cannon and many, many friends.
