Obituary

Albert Lee Sinks, beloved father and lifelong resident of Delray Beach, passed away June 3, 2016 at the age of 93. He is survived by daughters Nancy L. Sinks and Donna J. Sinks, brother-in-law Kenneth Ricklefs, nephew Daniel Britt, and niece Michele Petrie. Mr. Sinks was born in 1923 in Kelsey City, Florida (now Lake Park) and moved to Delray as an infant. He attended Delray Elementary and Delray High School (now Old School Square). Upon graduation Albert joined the U.S. Navy, serving during WWII from 1942-1945 as Torpedo-man in Guantanamo Bay and on the repair ship USS Vulcan (AR-5) in North Africa and the Pacific Ocean. Returning home he entered an apprenticeship as a carpenter, continuing a family profession of four generations. Albert worked with his brother on local commercial and residential buildings, and then on his own, specializing in remodeling. He met his wife, June (Ricklefs) Sinks of Illinois, while she was visiting relatives in Florida. They were married for 59 wonderful years before her passing in 2005. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners, and Civitan Club. Albert is remembered as a loving family provider and compassionate caretaker of his wife and mother during illness. His work ethic, dry sense of humor, love of animals, and fascination with plants are just a few traits for which he will be lovingly remembered. The tribute to Albert, and burial of Albert and June Sinks, will be held June 8, 2016 at 11:00am at the Delray Beach Memorial Gardens Municipal Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Veterans of Foreign Wars would be appreciated.
