Alfred "Alfio" Vincent Musumeci was taken from us on May 22, 2015 at the age of 84. He was born July 1, 1930 in Brooklyn, NY to Italian immigrant parents Rosario Alfred Musumeci and Maria Antonia Giaccone who worked as tailors. He is predeceased by a brother, Frank Musumeci, who also resided in Delray Beach. Known as 'Alf' to close family and friends, he was married for ten years to Susan Antoinette Hoopes. Before divorcing, they started a family together in Tarrytown, NY, a place that always remained near and dear to Alf's heart. He leaves behind a beloved son and daughter, Ross Musumeci and Christy Drangula, daughter-in-law Kerie Ann Musumeci, son-in-law Ted Drangula, grandsons Ryan Alfred Musumeci, Tyler Drangula and cherished granddaughter Antonia Drangula. He grew up with many colorful characters on the streets of Brooklyn, several of whom became life-long friends. He attended St. Joseph Catholic School and Brooklyn Tech high school. As a private in the Air National Guard he worked as an engineer on aircraft in the 102d Bombardment Squadron. He then attended Rennselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, NY and graduated with a civil engineering degree. He obtained a law degree from George Washington University specializing in patent law for over two decades at offices in Manhattan, NY arguing such cases as the NBA Basketball before the Supreme Court and obtaining the patent for interesting gadgets like the bendy straw. Alf was a brilliant mind with an almost photographic memory for facts, a lover of political debate with a sense of humor that would always command an audience, and a loyal friend and father. He was the embodiment of what so many first-generation sons of immigrants call the American Dream. He was a patriotic American G.I who respected and loved this country for the freedom and opportunity he found. Alf also loved Italy, particularly journeying back to Sicily learning a great deal about his family heritage. In the 70's he spent many summers vacationing and enjoying time with his children and friends in South Hampton, NY where he finally purchased a second home. These were some of the best years of his life. He retired in South Florida where he lived many years in Lighthouse Point and then Delray Beach, his little slice of paradise. His zest for life, his unique sense of humor and loving heart will be missed by many.
There will be a memorial service at the family's home in Montclair, NJ in honor of Alf on Saturday, June 13, 2015.
