ANNIE ROSE LISK SLOAN
A long time resident of Delray Beach, FL, peacefully
passed away on Tues., Sept. 25, 2012, in the presence
of her daughter, Hospice, and loving staff of Assisted
Living of PBG. She was born to Annie and Clyde Lisk in
Charlotte NC on Oct. 27, 1914. She attended Queen's
College in Charlotte and graduated from Spenserian
Business College in 1933. In 1934 she was married to
John Nicholas Sloan Jr. She and her beloved husband,
Nick, moved to Delray in 1935 to begin their lives
together and raise their family.
Annie Rose was actively involved in this growing
community for the next 60 years. She was one of the
organizers and charter members of Delray Roundtable
Book Club, Delray Duplicate Bridge Club and Revelers'
Dance Club. She was a member of Cason United Methodist
Church for over 50 years. She was active in PTA, Garden
Club work, her daughters' scout troops, and an auxiliary
volunteer at Bethesda Hospital. Mrs. Sloan assisted in
organizing the Junior Assembly and the Investors' Group
of Delray. She became a member of Jonathan
Dickenson Chapter, NSDAR in 1974. She served as regent
of the chapter from 1976-1978. She was loved by many,
appreciated for her unique joy of life and was seen as the
consummate "Southern Belle".
Annie was predeceased by her loving husband of 62 years
in 1996. She is survived by her children and their spouses,
Nick Sloan III (Rose), Tucky Samsen (John), and Ashlyn Bethel
(Hubert). She was known and loved as "Nana Rose" by her
eight grandchildren and sixteen delightful great-grandchildren,
sister Barbara Lisk Lore, and in-laws Bob Lore, Lucy Lisk
and John Anderson.
A Celebration of Life and a reception will be held at Cason
United Methodist Church, fellowship hall, in Delray on Saturday,
Oct. 6, 2012 from 11:45 to 12:45. Funeral services will begin at
1:00 p.m. in the sanctuary. Internment will follow at Delray
Beach Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Assisted Living
of Palm Beach Gardens, Hospice of Palm Beach County or
the Cason United Methodist Church may be given in memory
of Annie Rose Sloan. The family wishes to express profound
gratitude to all the scores of people who blessed her rich and
meaningful life for over 97 years.
