Arlene Taylor
Nickens
April 20, 1929 – April 23, 2026
Arlene Nickens was born April 20, 1929 and got her wings on April 23, 2026 at 97 years young.
She was born in Syracuse, New York and later moved to Florida because she hated the cold weather. With only a high school diploma, she secured a great accounting career with the State of Florida.
Meanwhile, she married and divorced - but then found her soulmate when she went dancing one night. This handsome dude named J.C. Nickens asked her to go out for coffee after dancing. When she went to get in his ride, she found out it was a pickup truck. She had never been in a truck. He helped her up into the seat. She looked at the rearview mirror and yellow roses were attached. Her favorite flower. They went to Mother Butler's and he took he back to her car.
That's when she fell in love. They were married 46 years and lived in Florida and Texas. After she married him, Arlene had to learn tennis, golf, scuba diving and sports because they watched football and basketball and their favorite teams. They would wear their jerseys while watching their favorite teams.
There were issues with the family and I wasn't close with Arlene Nickens until my father passed away in May 2019, just shy of his 93rd birthday.
After my father passed, Arlene moved in with Mike & I. We spent the pandemic together playing games and later Arlene and I went on several cruises together. Her last cruise on the Star Princess is what ended her wonderful life. She was driving and going to chair yoga twice a week, dancing on Saturdays and church on Sundays. She has so many friends and everyone who met her loved her.
She is survived by myself, Mike, my sister Peggy, and my brother John. As well as her 4 grandchildren: Melissa & Greg and Mike & Jessica. And her 4 great-grandchildren are Emma, Joey, Wyatt and Teagan. She has too many friends to mention them all - but her closest friends were Cynthia and Dorothy & Nel. She was an Elk and belonged to Lodge 1770 where she enjoyed playing bingo and met many friends. She attended Cason Methodist in Delray Beach.
She asked that there be no service. Per her wishes, I will take my dad's ashes and hers on my next cruise and throw them together into the ocean from the cruise ship. I have gotten ship approval for this.
