Charles Buford Gwynn passed away on June 11, 2019. He was born on December 12, 1931 in Delray Beach, Florida; the son of Joseph Keane Gwynn and Marietta Coufer Gwynn formally of Hodgenville, Kentucky.
Graduating from the first class of Seacrest High School after attending Delray Elementary and Delray High School that is now Old School Square. After high school Charley went on the graduate from Palm Beach Junior College and The University of Florida with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration in 1956. After graduating from UF, Charley joined the U.S. Army and after 23 years he retired from the U.S. Army Reserve attaining the rank of Colonel.
In 1957 Charley started his insurance career opening Charles B. Gwynn and Associates Inc. During his 44 years he went on to become a financial adviser, helping families prepare for the future. Early in his career he represented Jefferson Standard Life Insurance Company and later Lincoln Financial Group. During his career he achieved designations of Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC).
Charley was a lifetime member of The First Baptist Church of Delray Beach serving as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher for many years. Charley was former President of The Greater Delray Beach Chamber of Commerce, member of the Bethesda Memorial Hospital Foundation, and he also served his community on various committees and boards.
Charley loved sports and Gator football. He was a Little League Coach for teams in Boynton Beach and Delray Beach where his two sons played.
Charley is preceded by his sister Mary Jo Lewis of Houston, Texas and his son David Keane Gwynn of Delray Beach, Florida.
Charley is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carole S Gwynn; his son, Charles J Gwynn and granddaughters Averie and Parker Gwynn of Boynton Beach, Florida and his brother William E Gwynn of Delray Beach, Florida.
A Celebration of Life will be held on June 25, 2019 at 1100 AM at First Baptist Church, 16333 S. Military Trail, Delray Beach, FL 33484 with a reception to follow at the church.
