Clifford A.
Roberson
November 14, 1952 – February 20, 2025
Clifford A. Roberson passed peacefully into God's Kingdom on February 20, 2025, following a brief illness at Bethesda Hospital. He was 72.
Cliff was born in Saranac Lake, New York on November 14, 1952. He spent his early years living in a lakeside home on Flower Lake, adjacent to Saranac Lake. This mountain lake setting ignited Cliff's life-long passion for nature –– especially gardening, hiking and bird-watching. Following the death of his father, David Roberson, in the early 80's, Cliff and his mother, Beverly Roberson (nee Gibb) left Saranac Lake for Endwell, New York. There, his mother worked as a Surgical Nurse at Lourdes Hospital in nearby Binghamton while Cliff attended Maine-Endwell High School. Following his high school graduation, Cliff studied architecture at Syracuse University.
He subsequently worked and lived in Framingham, Massachusetts. After 4 years in Framingham, Cliff and his mother moved to Delray Beach, Florida where he worked for Slattery & Associates for nearly 30 years. This was a life-activity growth time for Cliff. He joined the First Presbyterian Church of Delray and contributed greatly to important church programs –– project managing the acquisition and installation of a new church steeple, and volunteering with church missions to New Orleans in support of Hurricane Katrina recovery efforts.
During his more than three decades living in Delray, Cliff designed and managed major improvements to his and his mother's home and its landscape. With Cliff's gift for gardening and landscape design, he created a true "botanical garden" that brightened the entire neighborhood.
In Delray, Cliff lived an active, fulfilling life –– golfing with friends, birdwatching with his cousin Bill Roberson and hosting family visits to Florida. His faith life blossomed at First Presbyterian Church of Delray contributing his time and talent to the church's many projects and missions. Cliff also pledged allegiance to the Florida Atlantic University football team as a season ticket holder and "tail-gater".
After his mother passed away in 2012, Cliff continued to work and enjoyed even more immersive birdwatching and more leisure time with friends and family. Then, in 2019, Cliff met the love of his life, Jean McKeen. Cliff and Jean shared a home in Wellington, Florida, travelled frequently to visit family and fulfilled his dream of visiting England and France. He retired from his career in architecture in 2020.
Cliff was greatly loved and is missed by his loving partner, Jean, her sons Sean, Terrence and Thomas McKeen, their spouses Melanie and Elizabeth, and children Declan, Brooke, Pietra, Wyatt, Fallon and Maerick. Cliff was close to his maternal family, Ellie, Matthew, Carter and Miles Olmsted, Cathleen Norton, Jensen and Owen Hopkins, Nora Norton, Frank Norton IV, Frank Norton III and Karen Carrico-Norton, and cousin Marguerite Larson. Throughout his life, Cliff enjoyed a close relationship with aunt Pat Taylor and uncle Edwin Jameson from the time they all lived in Saranac Lake. He is also missed by close cousins from his paternal family Carol McCutcheon, Nancy Webb, and Linda Link, and William, Suzanne and Michael Roberson.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025, 2:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church of Delray Beach, 33 Gleason Street, Delray Beach, FL 33483. Reception immediately following in Fellowship Hall.
