Obituary

David S. (Bubba) Messer, 72, a 3rd generation Floridian born in De Funiak Springs, Florida and raised in Boynton Beach and Delray Beach passed away on Sunday, January 10, 2016 with loved ones holding both of his hands.

Bubba is survived by his selflessly loving wife Lauren Thomas Messer of Boynton Beach as well as many dear and close friends.

Bubba was loved by his surviving children, Katy Quigley (John Quigley) of Louisville, Ky. and Jeffrey Messer (Dianne Messer) of Boynton Beach, and was the Patriarch of the text book blended family.

Between these 2 children he was blessed with a pack of grandchildren, step grandchildren and a great grandchild, all of whom he loved and all of whom loved their Bubba!

Daughter Katy's contribution consists of grandchildren Storm Leon, Aaden Blanco, Nina Marie Loulis and great grandchild Lilly Leon.

Jeffrey's offering is Haley Messer, John Pappelis, and Grant Rayside.

He is also survived by his dear friends Colby, Ken and Richard Mims.
It was widely understood that Bubba was actually the 4th Mims brother.

For 20 years he proudly served as a Police Officer for the City of Boca Raton where he retired as a Lieutenant in 1985. ( He Loved being a Boca Cop) He then worked in corporate security for IBM in Boca Raton and eventually in the same capacity for Auto Nation.

An avid fisherman, incredible marksman, very average hunter, and epic funnyman, he could regularly be found lurking around the Boynton Inlet, sometimes fishing, sometimes just catching up with old friends telling jokes and stories of questionable fact…

Whenever you saw him he had a smile and a joke for whatever the occasion. Please believe that some of these were much better than others…

When not performing with a group called The Elderly Brothers, he could be found at many local small establishments catching live music and stiffing his son with the bar bill. He was especially fond of local Delray Beach club Johnnie Brown's and their open air quality music venue.

Preceding him in his trek to heaven were his first son James Gregory (Crash) Messer (1994), his first wife Lois T. Messer (2003), as well as his longtime companion and all time favorite pet "Sammy The Wonder Dog".

A memorial celebration will be held on Saturday, January 30th at 4:30pm at Boynton Beach Community Church, 9515 Boynton Beach Blvd. Boynton Beach, FL. 33472.

Bubba was a peaceful man who never met a stranger, firmly believed in treating people right and wished others would do the same. He knew who his God was and was comforted in knowing he was going to see him. With that said, in lieu of flowers or charitable donations Bubba would rather that you reach out to someone you love, an old friend, relative, spouse, or classmate, tell them that you love them, and take them out to dinner or a special place.
