Obituary

David Eric Ufferman, 56, of Delray Beach, passed away on March 26, 2017. Born in Columbus, Ohio, raised in Puerto Rico, a resident of Florida since 1975, and attending Palmetto High School in Coral Gables and Atlantic High School in Delray Beach, as well as receiving a technical degree in Computer Networking, David had a broad and challenging life.

A self-taught man, David worked his way into the construction industry as a foreman on numerous job sites across the country. As a result of his brilliant mind and innate ability to figure out solutions to complicated problems, David was known for effective leadership and efficient, money-saving construction crews.

David also worked amongst fewer than 100 sandblast specialists who cleaned the inside of mega oil-freighter ships. During one of these jobs, he was hit in the back of his leg by an adjacent sandblaster, falling 20 to 30 feet, breaking his back, and yet walking away from the accident. Due to numerous surgeries over the following decades, doctors legally prescribed highly powerful pain medications.

David is known as a loving dad by Kimberly, Amanda, and David Jr. While a hard worker, he dearly loved his children.

Over the years, David realized his need for a Redeemer, someone who would pay the sin-debt David owed, because David owed a sin-debt he couldn't pay. David accepted Christ as his Savior. Grateful for his forgiveness of sins, David reached out to anybody he could find in need. He would go fishing at the Boynton Pier and give his catch to the homeless. He joined the American Legion and became a member of their Legion Riders Motorcycle Club, who are well known for their various charitable projects. In addition, David was a member of the Moose Lodge, also involved in charitable fundraising. As a child, and again in recent years, he was an avid boater and loved the ocean.

David spoke Spanish fluently, and was the friend of everyone, intermingling easily with a multitude of cultures and ethnicities. He was a very respectful man, and well-respected and loved by those who knew him. Being loved by Christ, and His love for Christ, motivated him to reach out to all with whom he came in contact.

In recent days, through various means, David decided to remove himself from those prescribed powerful pain medications, eventually throwing them into the garbage. As a result, a series of events, entirely uncharacteristic of David, ensued over several days which eventually led to his unexpected death.

David is survived by his mother, Lucy Ufferman; brother, Michael (wife Bonnie) Ufferman; daughter, Amanda (husband Joshua) Smith; son, David Ufferman, Jr.; daughter Kimberly (husband Charles) Ellis; niece, Faith Ufferman; nephew, Timothy (wife Mandi) Ufferman; and grandchildren Lane, Brystal, and Mario.

David was predeceased by his father, Harold Ufferman.

Visitation will be Friday, March 31, 2017 beginning at 10:00 a.m., with a 10:30 a.m. funeral service at Lorne & Sons Funeral Home, 745 N.E. 6th Ave. (North Federal Hwy.), Delray Beach. A brief graveside ceremony and burial will follow at the Delray Beach Cemetery.
