Dennis Oliver
Ogden
January 29, 1944 – October 20, 2024
Dennis Oliver Ogden, age 80 of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2024, surrounded by family.
He was born on January 29, 1944 to James Ogden and Naydien Rainey in Covington, Kentucky. He graduated from Dixie Hollins High School in St. Petersburg, Florida where he played running back in football. He then attended the University of Florida and became a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. After college, he embarked on a prolific career in real estate, which started in West Palm Beach, Florida and concluded in Orlando, Florida upon his retirement. He moved to Palm Beach Gardens, Delray Beach, Boca Raton, and finally Fort Lauderdale to be closer to his grandchildren. They will remember snorkeling and fishing trips with their cool Grandpa, as well as their annual family trips to New Orleans. Traveling around the world was one of his many passions that he shared with his son and daughter-in-law. We send him our innermost love on the journey ahead.
Dennis is survived by his son Casey, daughter-in-law Ronalisa, grandchildren: Leigh, Reese, and Oliver, brothers Douglas and Ed, and sister Pat.
Below are some words from his older brother Douglas:
"My brother Dennis and I go back 80 years. I am heartbroken that he has passed on to the "Mansion in the Sky." One of the last things he mentioned to me, before he passed, he pointed to the scar on his forehead. When we were growing up in Lexington, Kentucky, I suggested he be the bull and I would be the matador holding the blanket. I forgot that I was in front of the house and when I lifted the blanket, he ran his head into the concrete wall at our home. Dennis frequently reminded me of this game.
One of the most memorable times growing up is when we lived on Skyline Drive in Campbell County, Kentucky. Our dad bought a farm and named it "Nedgo Acres," which is Ogden spelled backwards. Our dad wanted us to be together as a family, which included our grandmother Mabelle Sweetwood. We all had our own horse and Dennis' horse was named Coco. We really enjoyed the farm as it overlooked the Ohio river and an amusement park named Coney Island, in Ohio, which we could see from our farm.
Later in life, Dennis was into golfing, boating, traveling, playing cards among many other interests. We would play word games daily and he enjoyed beating me. He also enjoyed beating me in cribbage. I still owe him $6.00 from our last game. There are so many more memories that I cannot mention, this is just a snippet of my memories.
Now, I am the only one left at the age of 84 and never thought that I would outlive Dennis. My parents, half-sister, and only full brother is gone. Dennis, I will miss you and I love you very much. R.I.P. my brother Dennis."
As per Dennis' wishes, no funeral or memorial service will be held.
