Obituary

Doris Gloria Surles

Doris was born April 4th 1921 and went home to be with the Lord on May 2nd 2012. Doris was born in Palatka FL, daughter of Lawton L. Surles and Edessa Surles Hiscock. She spent her childhood on Lake George in Georgetown, FL. She graduated from Crescent City High School in 1940. After graduation she and her mother moved to Delray Beach, FL to start Surles Furniture and Upholstery. Doris worked alongside her mother, Edessa and brother, Leonard. She worked in the family business up until 2005 when she retired. Doris saw a lot of changes in her many years in Delray, from pineapples growing in fields all around her house, to what we see of the Delray Beach of today. Doris has been a member of Cason United Methodist Church in Delray for 60 plus years. "Aunt Doris" that's what most people called her, even if they were not family. Though she had no children of her own, she always considered her nieces and nephews and their families her children. Doris, or should we say "Aunt Doris" will be remembered as a loving sister, a lifelong friend and a wonderful aunt with a kind and gentle spirit, loved by everyone. We are going to miss you! Doris is survived by her sister, Alice Surles Rosser of Cordele, GA and a niece and four nephews, Barbera Culpepper and her brother Sunny Rosser Jr. and their families of Cordele, GA. Lenny L. Surles Jr. of Boca Raton, FL, Ernie M. Surles of Marshall, N.C. and Leon O. Surles Sr. of Boynton Beach, FL, and their families. Doris was predeceased by her parents and brothers, Leonard L. Surles Sr. and Raymond Surles. (These things I have written unto you that believe on the name of Jesus the Son of God,That you may know that you have Eternal Life.(1 JOHN 5:13)HEAVEN IS A WONDERFUL PLACE.
