Dorothy Newnham
Malone
March 24, 1923 – August 5, 2022
Dorothy Malone died from natural causes in Florida on August 5, 2022. Her residence was at
Abbey Delray South in Delray Beach, Florida. She previously lived in Boynton Beach, Florida;
Waynesburg, Pennsylvania; and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Born in Bay City, Michigan on March 24,1923, Mrs. Malone was the daughter of Louis
Newnham and Louise Denkhaus Newnham. After growing up in Windsor, Ontario, she moved
across the river to Detroit, where she met her husband Knox Hunter at a USO dance; they
moved to his family home in Pittsburgh after they were married. While she was in Detroit, she
became a Certified Public Accountant.
As a member of Sixth Presbyterian Church and Shadyside Church in Pittsburgh, Mrs. Malone
always offered a helping hand to friends and neighbors. She volunteered as a poll worker for
elections, supported her husband's work as an attorney, and continued to work as a self-
employed CPA during tax season and parttime. She adored her pets, including dogs, cats, and
birds, and regularly had a small family of fluffy cats in her home. She will be missed by all who
knew her.
Mrs. Malone is survived by her daughters Martha Hunter and husband Michael Elmer, and
Elizabeth Hunter, as well as by her grandchildren Thomas Hunter, Christina Battiston, Peter
Burghart, and Sarah Burghart. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Samuel Knox
Hunter, Jr., John Hook, and James Malone; her sisters, Lucille Kent and Margaret Butler; her
daughter Barbara Hunter Burghart; and her granddaughter Amanda (Anya) Hunter.
