Obituary

Edna H. Schneider died at her residence on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at the age of 102 years, 3 months, 29 days. She lived her life in the Lord and she died in the Lord. Edna was born on October 4, 1912 in Baldwin, IL to Ernst Huseman and Bertha née Winkelfoss. Edna was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church in Baldwin. After attending schools in Baldwin, she took education courses at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL. She taught country school prior to her marriage to The Reverend Arnold W. Schneider. Shortly after their marriage in 1938 they traveled to Brasil, SA to begin what would be twenty five years of missionary work in that country for The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. Their four children were born there. In 1963 she moved with her family to Niagara Falls, NY where they ministered at Trinity Lutheran Church. During her congregational life she fulfilled the roles of choir director, organist, Sunday School Superintendent and teacher, Lutheran Woman's Missionary League organizer in Brasil and taught English as a second language. She was an avid quilter and all grandchildren and greats received a hand quilted baby quilt. She daily worked crossword puzzles and loved to read. She instilled her love of reading in her children. She loved telling every listener stories of her life and admonished all to attend church and use the power of prayer. She also believed that good food and a cup of tea could resolve most difficulties.
Upon retirement in 1978 they traveled and settled in Red Bud, IL where they resided until moving to Delray Beach in 1999. She was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Delray Beach, prayerfully supporting their education program. Christian education was dear to her heart. She was a wise woman with a servant heart and a strong faith in her Lord.
Edna was precedent in death by her husband, The Reverend Arnold Schneider in 2003. She is survived by son The Reverend Carlos (Jan) Schneider, daughters Carol (The Reverend Ronald) Laue, Norma (Tim) Riggs, Bette (The Reverend William) Shimkus, 10 Grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.
