Obituary

Emogene Walker Morgan, 92, passed away on Monday, October 5, 2015. She was born in Delray Beach, May 10, 1923 to Alva H. and Mary Butler Walker, both early settlers of Delray Beach. Emogene was also the granddaughter of J. L. and Agnes Butler who came to Linton in 1908 from Columbus, GA and the great grand-daughter of Jane Butler who was buried in the Linton/Delray cemetery in 1905. Her grandparents Joseph and Rachel Walker settled in Linton in 1907, coming from Basinger, FL. Her grandfather, Joseph Walker, was elected Marshall in 1911, when Linton was incorporated into Delray. He served 4 terms. She was also a 5th generation Floridian on the Walker side. Her family came into Florida by way of a land grant from the Revolutionary War. She was a member of the Daughters of the Revolution, Daughters of the Confederacy, and the Delray Historical Society.

Emogene attended school in Delray and graduated from Delray High School in 1941. After graduation, she worked for Western Union Telegraph until her marriage to George Wayne Morgan of Asheville, NC in 1945. They were married for 60 years and had 2 children, Douglas and Vickie. She was the manager of Jamaica Square Apartments in Gulfstream for 30 years. Emogene was very active in the schools, serving from spaghetti cook to President. Poetry and gardening were her great loves. She had several poems published by the American Poetry Association. The Delray Historical Society has a copy of her book, "Raveled Threads". She was a charter member of Lakeview Baptist Church and through the years, served on numerous committees. Her love of God, her family, her friends, and her hometown shone through everything she did.

Emogene is survived by her son, Douglas of Houston, TX; daughter, Vickie (Tom) Morgan-Pearce of Jupiter, FL; grandchildren, Doug (Crystal) Fugate of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Rebecca (Eric) Griffin of Katy, TX, and Sarah (Ron) Redmond of Houston, TX; nephews, Tom (Kathy) Walker of Powell, WY, Rick (Angie) Walker of Washington, D.C.; great-nephews, Coleman, Bennett and Griffin Walker; niece, Sydney Walker; great-grandchildren, Joshua and Matthew Griffin, Carolyn and Ethan Redmond; niece, Robin (Nathan) Ramsey.
Emogene was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; parents, Alva and Mary Walker; nephew, Jack Bennett Walker; daughter-in-law, Marilyn; brothers, Jack and his wife Mary and Carl Walker.

A celebration of Emogene's life will be celebrated by Pastor Nick Arnold at Lakeview Baptist Church, 2599 N. Swinton Ave, Delray Beach, FL on Saturday, October 17th, 2015 at 10:30 AM. All are invited to a reception following the service in the Fellowship Hall until 1:30 PM. Private burial will be held at the Delray Beach Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, make contributions to the Jack B. Walker Scholarship Fund, Florida Atlantic University, or to Lakeview Baptist Church.
