Obituary

Ernest Anthony LoFurno, of Delray Beach, passed away on April 16, 2021.  Ernie was born in 1945 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Ernest and Marie LoFurno. He was married in 1968 at Incarnation of Our Lord Catholic Church in Philadelphia to Catherine Helene LoFurno, who passed away in 2006.  Father of Anthony (Denise) LoFurno of Parkland, Gina (Michael) Tomberg of Clermont, Lisa (Anthony) Cavarretta of Parkland, Mary (Nicholas) Carhart of Jupiter, and Angela LoFurno of Juno Beach.  Predeceased by his son, Gregory Anthony, in 1970.  Grandfather of Danny, Ryan, Matt, Julianne, Michaela, Grace, Ashley, Leah, Finn, Chase, Brady, Cammie, Olivia, AJ, Luke, and Caroline.

Ernie graduated from Cheltenham High School and continued his studies at Temple University (College of Engineering) and Arizona State University. He was a volunteer firefighter early on in Pennsylvania.  Although he had to leave this career due to health reasons, firefighting would remain his passion throughout life.  Ernie would go on to befriend fellow firefighters throughout the world.  He considered this to be a brotherhood to which he was honored to belong and was greeted with open arms at each of the many fire stations that he visited over the years.  Ernie served as Chairman Emeritus of Fire Rescue Advisory Board and Fire & Life Safety Task Force for Palm Beach County Fire Rescue for 17 years.  The railroads and model railroading were also beloved hobbies. Blessed with a brilliant mind as a civil engineer and builder, Ernie's expertise in this field was valued by countless colleagues and those who were mentored by him.

As his 16 grandchildren arrived one by one, Ernie could be found visiting them, attending their events, or taking them out for treats.  Ernie valiantly fought many health battles over the years including Parkinson's Disease later in life.  He was also loved by the nurses and staff at each facility where he lived.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to either the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Foundation in memory of Gregory Anthony LoFurno (1970) - (PO Box 781352, Philadelphia, PA 19178-1352) or the Parkinson's Foundation (200 SE 1st Street, Suite 800, Miami, FL 3313).  Please also enjoy a Philly soft pretzel from Wawa (his favorite) with your loved ones in Ernie's honor!
