Ethel Sloan Allen, age 92, of Gulfstream, Florida and White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, died October 26, 2011. Ethel was born October 16, 1919 in Washington, D.C. She was the daughter of Colonel & Mrs. Thomas Donaldson Sloan. She is survived by her daughters; Renee Allen Rand of Sugar Grove, North Carolina & Evelyn Sloan O'Neil of Village of Golf, Florida. Six grandchildren; Richard Rand, Whitney Franz, Christina Fish, Courtney James of Durham, North Carolina, Sloan Pendleton of Marblehead, Massachusetts & Dustin Eberts of Boca Raton, Florida. Her nephew Martin Morris of Homestead, Florida & Helen Minich of Earlysville, Virginia & fourteen great grandchildren. Ethel was an active member of Colonial Dames of America, Daughters of American Revolution, Society of Mayflower Descendants & also of the Gulfstream Bath and Tennis Club. Ethel, known as "Bam", made her debut in New York City in 1937. She attended The Lawrence School in Hewlett, New York & The American School of Design in New York City. She was the granddaughter of Col. and Mrs. Hobart Clark & Mr. and Mrs. Robert Sage Sloan. She was the great great-granddaughter of General Rene de Russy, class of 1812 at West Point, New York. A service in memory of Ethel will be held at Holy Cross Church in Valle Crucis, North Carolina at a later date.
