Obituary

Rev. Father Timothy S. Sockol, 69, of Delray Beach, FL passed away peacefully on his birthday,  May 10, 2020.  He was born on May 10, 1951 in Scranton, PA, to the late John & Mary Sockol.

Fr. Tim was ordained a priest on May 14, 1977 for the Diocese of Miami.  His first assignment was Assistant Pastor for St. Hugh in Miami from 1977-1979. He was also assigned as the Associate Director of Youth Activities & Scout Chaplain for the Diocese of Miami 1978-1981.

In 1979, Fr. Tim was transferred to the Diocese of Palm Beach where he was assigned Assistant Pastor for St. Vincent Ferrer, Delray Beach till 1989. He had many other assignments namely: Director of Data Processing for the Diocese of Palm Beach from 1985-1990, Assistant Chancellor for the Diocese of Palm Beach from 1988-1990, Parochial Vicar for St. Vincent Ferrer from 1990-1992, Pastor of St. Sebastian, Sebastian, FL 1992-1999.

Fr. Tim then took further studies abroad in Rome, Italy for two years before returning in 2002 to St. Vincent Ferrer serving in many different capacities.   In 2006, he was assigned to be the Pastor of Emmanuel Catholic Church, Delray Beach where he served until his retirement in 2017.

Fr. Tim is survived by his siblings: John Daniel "Danny" Sockol, Michael Sockol, Ann Sockol, Maria Forrest and Susan McAllister, many nieces and nephews and Father Eli St Fort, spiritual Son.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, there will be no public viewing.

The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Friday, May 15, 2020, 11AM at Emmanuel Catholic Church, Delray Beach with only priests and immediate family attending.  It will be live-streamed via Emmanuel Church Facebook page https: //www.facebook.com/emmanuel.church.169067.

Burial will follow at 12:30PM at Our Lady Queen of Peace Cemetery, 10941 Southern Blvd., Royal Palm Beach.  Public is invited to the burial only and must wear face mask and practice social distancing.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Diocese of Fairbanks in Father Tim's memory.
