Florence (nee: Poweska) Riess, 88, passed away peacefully at Boca Raton Regional Hospital on January 12, 2015. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward J. Riess and daughter of late Victor and Mary Poweska. Born on June 27, 1926 and raised in New York City, she graduated from Commercial Central High School and was a legal secretary before marrying in 1949. She and her husband hand built their home in West Islip, NY where they raised their three children. She returned to work and retired as office manager of Thermo-Mechanical Industries in Queens NY. She and Ed handbuilt their second home on Lake Wallenpaupack, PA in 1972. She enjoyed many summers there and wintered in Highland Beach at Seagate in Florida. She was an avid lover of bridge,mah jongg and bingo. She served on the Seagate Board of Directors and for twenty years as Treasurer of the activities committee. She was a parishioner of St. Lucy's Church of Highland Beach and a member of their women's club.
Her greatest joys were spending time enjoying gourmet meals and wines with her chef sons and family.
Florence was a world traveler and enjoyed many journeys with her Seagate friends. They loved her laugh, her straightforward personality, independence and kindness. She will be missed in both her communities.
She was a loving and patient wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by daughter Lorraine Riess of Higganum, CT, sons Douglas Riess of East Quogue, NY and Randolph Riess and wife Donna of Southampton, NY; two grandchildren Shaun Riess of Southampton and Pierce Riess of Venice Beach, CA along with cousins, nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff of Honesdale Community Hospital and Boca Raton Regional Hospital for their kindness and caring attendance during her final year.
There will be a private memorial service in the spring at her Pennsylvania home where her and her husband's cremains will be scattered. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the American Heart Association
