Frank J. Devine
Retired Foreign Service Officer and former U.S. Ambassador to El Salvador, died June 2, 2012, in Delray, Beach, Florida. He was 89.
Ambassador Devine was born in Albany, New York, and graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. After serving in the U.S. Army, he joined the Foreign Service and worked for 32 years at postings in Colombia, Uruguay, Chile, Washington D.C., Portugal, Dominican Republic, Venezuela and El Salvador. He was a Class of 1963 graduate of the National War College.
He met his beloved wife Barbara (of Phoenix, Arizona) in Montevideo, Uruguay, and they were married for 49 years until her passing.
After retiring from the Foreign Service, Mr. Devine served as Executive Director of the Brazilian-American Chamber of Commerce in New York City for seven years; taught as an Adjunct Professor and Diplomat-in-Residence at Palm Beach Atlantic College; and served as Executive Director of the Beach Property Owners Association of Delray Beach, Florida.
Mr. Devine is survived by his three children: Margaret Rose of Highland Beach, FL, Frank III (Susan) of Madrid, Spain, and Penelope A. (John Salamanski) of Denver, CO, and his two grandchildren, Frank IV and Cooper. He is also survived by his sister, Marie Galyean (Ray).
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Lucy's Catholic Church,3510 South Ocean Blvd., Highland Beach, FL.
