Frank K. Mayers, 91, died peacefully at his home in Boynton Beach, FL, February 1, 2014. Frank and his wife, actress Virginia Lee Curtis Mayers, who predeceased him, were long-time New York City residents. Born 1922 in Cleveland, OH, Frank was the son of inventor and shoe salesman, Horace Mayers, and Lucille Shaw Mayers. He grew up in Rocky River, OH. During WWII he interrupted his college studies to become a pilot in the Army Air Corps and flew a B-24 bomber based in Italy. In 1947 he graduated from the University of Pennsylvania. He earned his MBA from Harvard Business School in the illustrious class of 1949. In the early days of television, he worked at McCann Erickson selling advertising time. He later joined Foote, Cone & Belding as an account executive, working on many famous ad campaigns including "Does she or doesn't she? Only her hairdresser knows for sure." He joined Clairol as Executive Vice President and was named President in 1967. He later rose to President and then Chairman of the Products Division of Bristol-Myers. He retired in 1983. He is survived by his son Michael Mayers, daughter-in-law Lynn Dougherty, and two grandchildren, Jackson Mayers and Nora Mayers, all of Topanga, CA. Frank was active for many years in the Madison Square Boys and Girls Clubs, serving as Trustee and President of the Board of Directors. The family requests donations to this charity in lieu of flowers. Memorial gathering at The Country Club Of Florida Wednesday February 5th at 11:30am. He will be deeply missed.
