Frank Alexander
Zuniga
May 20, 1954 – June 15, 2022
Frank Alexander Zuniga, 68, of Delray Beach, Florida, passed away on June 15, 2022. He was the devoted husband of Laurie Zuniga, loving and very proud father of Jacqueline Zuniga (deceased), Matthew Zuniga, and Anthony Zuniga, beloved PopPop of Jacob Zuniga and Layla Zuniga, caring brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He was a father figure and mentor to so many others.
Frank was born in Denver, Colorado and was one of 10 children. He was predeceased by his parents Frank M. and Manuelita Zuniga, brothers Louis Zuniga, Michael Zuniga, and Gerard Zuniga, and sisters Rita Herrera and Mary Gonzalez. He is survived by his sisters Nellie Martinez and Anna Martinez, and brothers Richard Zuniga and Alexander Zuniga. Frank had several generations of nieces, nephews, and cousins in the Colorado and Kansas areas.
Frank attended Knapp Elementary School and Kepner Junior High, and was a Class of '72 graduate of Abraham Lincoln High School in Denver. After graduation he enlisted in the Army. He was stationed in Ft. Ord in California and Ft. Carson in Colorado, and had tours of duty in Germany and Korea. Frank was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and was Honorably Discharged in 1978 with the rank of Sergeant.
After marrying Laurie in 1977, Frank and his family moved to Delray Beach in 1980. He attended electrical apprenticeship school in Broward County and received his Journeyman's License. He went on to earn his Master Electrician License and his Electrical Contractor's License. He then, very proudly, started his own electrical contracting company. Helping customers make informed decisions and doing quality work for a reasonable price were his missions. Frank was a staunch supporter of the trades. He became an instructor for Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc, and for many years taught the electrical trade to many students.
Frank was very involved with St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church, where his three children attended elementary school and where he was a Eucharistic Minister. A few of his passions were teaching children about God and nature. He was in charge of the Altar Servers for many years and he was a Scoutmaster with Troop 304 at St. Vincent's.
Another of Frank's passions was music. He loved music in any form. He was a member of the school choir as a youth, and he so enjoyed playing the guitar. He was an avid reader and enjoyed spending hours looking through bookstores. He also loved movies…anything John Wayne, military movies, adventures, musicals, and all those Hallmark Christmas movies. He was very much a romantic at heart. And could he cook! He was the kind of person who could take multiple items from the pantry and put them together to create a delicious feast. His specialties were Mexican dishes, and he is widely known for his "famous" homemade salsa.
Frank was a master of telling "Dad" jokes that would elicit groans from all age groups. He would use movie quotes for any given situation, and his knowledge of trivia was astounding. Some of Frank's hobbies were gardening, wood-working, traveling, cruising, and being a Jack of All Trades. He could fix just about anything. Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Cinco de Mayo were Frank's favorite holidays. He loved traveling with his family. Some of his dearest memories were of times spent with his wife and children on road trips. He would go anywhere in a car, and he would listen to old radio shows. Everyone liked the scary ones the best!
Frank so loved family reunions. He enjoyed talking with and listening to everyone, he was so curious about what they were interested in, and respected their thoughts and ideas. He had a deep love for all his family, a love which transcended the miles and the generations.
Frank was a loving, faithful, dependable, kind-hearted, generous, good-natured, devout, compassionate, delightful, jovial, patriotic, extremely hard-working man. Frank was a true treasure and a really cool guy who enjoyed parties and celebrations. He is dearly missed and will forever be a shining light in our hearts.
