Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Fred Sergio, our amazing father, peacefully passed away at the age of 102 on Christmas morning, Tuesday, December 25 th , 2018.  He loved this special time of the year and went to spend it with his loving wife Emma, who passed April 1, 2016.  Fred will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by daughters, Margie Barbaree (Tom) and Rosemarie Brant; sons, Tom Sergio and Jack Sergio (Lita); twelve grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

Fred was a World War II Navy Vet and saw the flag raised at Iwo Jima.  He was born in Roosevelt, NY.  Fred worked for Grumman's for many years and was a Mail Carrier in Hempstead for 20 years then moved to Florida in 1956.  He continued as a Mail Carrier on Atlantic Avenue in Delray and owned the Delray Cafeteria.  However, everyone knew him best as the Supervisor of Miller Park for 55 years and "Sergio's Field" is named in his honor.  Fred worked there until he was 97 years old when he left to take care of his wife of 72 years.  He was fortunate at the age of 99 to go on an Honor Flight trip to Washington D.C.  He retired from the city at the age of 100.  Each morning he loved to read the Palm Beach Post page by page, especially the sports.  He lived his life to the fullest.  Our Dad will be deeply missed and his memories will remain in our hearts forever.  Fred will be buried at the South Florida National Cemetery, Lake Worth, FL where he and our mother will be together forever.

A Celebration of Fred's Life will be held at Miller Park, 1905 SW 4th Ave, Delray Beach, FL 33444 on Saturday, January 26th at 11:00 am.

To honor Fred's memory, donations can be made to Forgotten Soldiers Outreach, 3550 23 rd Avenue S., Suite #7, Lake Worth, FL 33461, a local organization dedicated to sending monthly "We Care" packages to our servicemen & women or the Southeast Florida Honor Flight Inc.  P.O.
