Gail M.
Lane
September 28, 1949 – December 18, 2022
Heaven gained the ultimate angel on December 18, 2022, as Gail Maslovich Lane of Delray Beach, Florida (nee Wilmington, Delaware) passed away peacefully at the age of 73, while surrounded by her ever-loving husband and daughters. She left us suddenly after suffering from a massive stroke shortly after finishing a beautiful dinner out with friends…one of her favorite things to do.
Gail was born on September 28, 1949, to Edward and Reba Maslovich of Atlantic City, New Jersey, who later moved their family to Wilmington, Delaware. She was the middle child of 5 siblings (Fred, Steve, Diane, and Larry—siblings who gave her beloved nieces and nephews). Gail graduated in 1967 from Mount Pleasant High School in Wilmington,Delaware, with many of her life-long friends. Most of her career was spent as an administrative assistant, most notably for Franklin Lake Advertising and The Wilmington Trust Company, where she was both an admin and a bank teller. Also of note, Gail made the very best cheesesteak, due to her time working at Penny Hill Steak Shop in the 1970s.
A true milestone of Gail's life occurred when, in her words, "leaving a girls' night at the Buggy Tavern, ended with a friendly kiss with Bill Lane." That kiss then led to a kind man inviting a single, divorced mom of two young daughters to be a part of his life. They married on the anniversary of that kiss, on June 10, 1978, making Gail his beloved wife, her girls a forever part of his world and a family unit was born. Bill was not the only one to embrace all of us, we were welcomed into the Lane Family. Bill's father, Winnie, and his two sisters, Pat and Judy also embraced Gail and her daughters as their own daughter and granddaughters, and sister, nieces and cousins to Pat's girls.
This all explains Gail's most favorite vocation of all, being wife to Winfield W. Lane II (Bill) and mother to her pride and joys, her two daughters, Angela Angeny of Wilmington, Delaware, and Jennifer Munro of West Chester, Pennsylvania (both nee. Heller). As her family grew with the addition of Barry Angeny and Jay Munro—her sonnies (because of all the sunshine they brought to her life and family), Gail's joy also grew. When her grandchildren were born, one after the other, Alex and Brooke Munro, and finally the exclamation point of Megan Angeny, her heart was full, and the fun elevated to another level.
For you see, above all else, Gail was a fervently dedicated wife and partner to Bill, her dearest companion and best friend, married for nearly 45 years—if you saw one, the other was likely near…and if they were near one another, they were likely holding hands—they always kissed one another good-bye and goodnight, closing each day with, "I Love You." They set a beautiful example for all of us. As a mother, she grounded us is in being good people who helped others, she encouraged us to be ourselves and follow our dreams, and most importantly, how to be grateful, love with our whole hearts, and to shine from the inside, out. We knew that beauty was everywhere, to be present where we are and above all else, to have fun as life is not a dress rehearsal, it is meant to be lived. As a Grammy, she provided lots of love and encouragement as she helped all of us go and grow, while always reminding us to embrace life and all it has to offer.
While living in Delaware, Gail worked hard and tirelessly on behalf of her family, while also playing hard, with Bill and her closest friends at the Buggy Tavern, the beach or at friends' homes. When Bill and she relocated to Delray Beach, Florida—their paradise on earth—they took fun to the ultimate limits as she realized what she taught us, "There was nothing that sand, sea, sunshine, stars and live music could not cure." Taking every opportunity to connect with friends, new and old. Everywhere she went, she met people and made fast friends. Gail truly loved her more than 20 years on the Atlantic Coast of Florida.
Gail relished caring for her yard and gardens, while, also decorating and constantly recreating her home with a flair that was unmatched. She enjoyed reading books and doing word search puzzles, and solving the puzzles on Wheel of Fortune, to keep her mind active and healthy. She cherished regular updates from her friends and family members and always looked forward to one or both of her daughters' daily calls. But her most favorite thing of all was to put on her make-up (especially her lipstick), choose a fashion-forward outfit with just the right shoes, jewelry and handbag, and head out to a bar or restaurant with family and friends (ones she knew and ones she made, everywhere she went)—whether to catch-up, dance or just be in a lively establishment—filling it with joy, while lighting up everywhere she went with her one-of-a-kind laugh and love for fun.
So, in honor of Gail, love your family, reach for your dreams, take care, be grateful and present, laugh out loud, dance like no one is watching, see live music and live your life to the fullest—true to yourself—and of course arriving early to ensure that you get a seat at the bar.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 5:30pm to 7:30pm on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at the Columbus Inn, 2216 Pennsylvania Avenue, Wilmington, DE 19806.
