Obituary

George M. Rogers, Jr. ("Ted"), age 81 of Gulf Stream, Florida, formerly of Chevy Chase, Maryland, passed away on March 31 with his wife and two children by his side.

Ted grew up and lived most of his life in Chevy Chase. He attended the Landon School in Bethesda, from which he graduated in 1951.

Ted excelled in athletics, especially squash and tennis. He won the 1951 USTA National Junior Championships in singles and doubles. He captained the 1955 Princeton University tennis team before being graduated that same year.

Sports brought great joy to Ted and he built deep and lasting friendships on and off the courts. He was a long-time member of the Gulf Stream Bath and Tennis Club in Delray Beach, Florida and the Chevy Chase Club.

Ted graduated from the University of Virginia Law School in 1958. In 1970, he joined Shaw, Pittman, Potts and Trowbridge (now Pillsbury Shaw), where he was instrumental in building the corporate and securities practice. He served on the board of directors of Chevy Chase Bank from its founding in 1969 until its acquisition by Capital One Financial Corporation in 2009. He also served as a long-time board member of the B. F. Saul Company and as a trustee of the B. F. Saul Real Estate Investment Trust.

Ted considered his dogs cherished members of the family and he reciprocated the loyalty shown to him by companions Smoky, Cinder, Perrywinkle, Higgins, Ramsay and others. His black Labrador, Higgins, often accompanied him to work at Shaw Pittman.

Ted is survived by his second wife, Patricia ("Patty"), two children Nanine ("Nina") and George ("Teddy") and eight grandchildren: Macabe, Grady, Clayton and Shelby McDonald-Camps and George, John, Luke and Thomas Rogers.

Memorial services will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Delray Beach, Florida on Saturday, April 11 at 2:30pm and at All Saints Episcopal Church in Chevy Chase, Maryland at 1pm on Friday, April 24.
