Gloria Moya, aka "Glorieta" and "GiGi", age 77, passed away in Delray Beach, FL on July 18, 2017. Gloria was born on January 10, 1940 in Cali Colombia, South America, where she spent her childhood. She is predeceased by her parents, Luis Alberto Moya and Esmilda Espinosa. Gloria was one of six children and was very close with all her siblings; but always worried about her older sister Nora, who has since passed. She is survived by her siblings Libia Rodriguez of Cali Colombia, Koby Sanchez of Delray Beach, FL, Luis Alberto Moya of Miami, FL and Maria Isabel Manriquez of Mexico City, MX. She loved, worried and cared for her siblings until the very end.
Gloria was dedicated, focused and excelled at her studies. As a child she enjoyed her books, music, movies, swimming and basketball. She started working in an accounting firm early in life and used her earnings to travel to America. She taught herself English and was the first of her family to reach the United States, landing in New York City where the true adventure of her life began. She attended City College and dedicated herself to her studies and accounting. She landed a wonderful and prosperous job in Manhattan and was so proud of her ability to help her family back home becoming the gateway for the arrival of the rest of the family in the US. Her work as an accountant with a prestigious travel agency allowed her to travel to 6 continents. She traveled with friends and family around the world. Some of her favorites were Egypt, The Great Wall of China, India and South East Asia. While Gloria was humble about her travel experience it was always such a treat to hear about her trips. She would light up as she recounted her adventures. After leaving New York, Gloria spent most of her adult life in Connecticut where she continued her hard work in accounting and enjoyed time with family and friends.
Gloria was always very dedicated to her nieces and nephews. There is a family saying "To those that God did not give children, the devil sends nieces and nephews" Gloria was blessed with 33 little devils and she spoiled rotten. While she may not have had children of her own she considered each and every niece and nephew one of her children. She was revered and loved by her extended family. One of Gloria's true enjoyments in her life was her love of animals. She raised two beautiful dogs, Ochi and Toffey. Their loss was always difficult for her. She also saved countless cats in her neighborhood and was always a strong supporter of animal rights. Another one of Gloria's passions was sports. She loved watching sports on TV and could talk to anybody toe to toe on sports. She loved all the New York Teams but the Knicks and Patrick Ewing always held a special place in her heart.
Gloria lived a beautiful and adventurous life. She was very independent and tough as she lived most of her life on her own. We will always remember Gloria for her beauty, smarts, dedication and generosity. She loved her family and friends with all her heart and she will never be forgotten.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Lorne & Sons Funeral Home, Delray Beach, FL, officiated by Deacon Gregory Sherman.
