H. Jackson Anstedt, formerly of Rockford, Illinois, passed into the arms of the Lord on January 12, 2018, in Delray Beach, Florida. A true optimist, he lived a full, rich life until the age of 91. Jack was born in St. Louis, Missouri to Mabel Kennedy and H. Jacob Anstedt on July 5, 1926. He was valedictorian of his high school class and attended Washington University in St Louis. Jack served in the United States Army during World War II and was stationed in Berlin as a cryptographer. On November 11, 1948, he married Tanya Catherine Shannon and together celebrated 69 years of marriage.
"The joy you give to others is the joy that comes back to you" was what he truly believed. He and Tanya were proud of their daughters, Tina Anstedt (Dr. Steven) Gunderson and Catherine Anstedt (Marc) Hadd. He enjoyed spending time telling life stories to his six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Jack and Tanya settled in Rockford where he began his career at Rock River Distributors, a millwork company that he eventually owned. He built Rock River Distributors into a very successful sash & door company and retired the first time at the age of 49 after selling his company to Huttig Corporation, a national sash & door company.
Retirement was not his forte and fortunately Huttig recruited him back to run the company he sold them. After a short time, Huttig made him an officer and member of the board of directors. He worked an additional 18 years as V.P. of Mergers and Acquisitions for them until the age 68. Jack always referred to himself as a "simple door salesman". Jack loved his Rockford friends and community serving as University Club president and remained involved with many charities. He was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Delray Beach, Florida and was active on the board of directors of his condominium association. He truly enjoyed conversing with his many friends. H. Jackson Anstedt was loved and will be sincerely missed by his wife, daughters, family and friends. "May the good Lord bless and keep you till we meet again."
A private service will be held in Florida. Donations may be made in Jack's name to First Presbyterian Church of Delray, 33 Gleason Street, Delray Beach, Florida, 33483.
