Henry Armand
Terjen, Jr.
February 14, 1938 – February 9, 2021
Henry Armand (Hank) Terjen, Jr., was born on Valentine's Day 1938 in Los Angeles and died on February 9, 2021, in Delray Beach, Florida, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Judy Boyd Terjen; a sister, Susan Terjen Bernard, of Norfolk, Virginia, and her two daughters, Jean Bernard Gunderson and Suzanna Bernard McGrath; one great-nephew and four great-nieces. He was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Jean Foster Terjen, and a son, Henry Foster Terjen.
Hank was a graduate of Woodberry Forest School, Orange, Virginia and Hampden-SydneyCollege, Farmville, Virginia where he excelled in playing football and making lifelong friends. At Hampden-Sydney he was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity, where he was remembered for his renovations to the fraternity house.
He attended the Darden School of Business at The University of Virginia. He was very proud of his career as an officer in the U.S. Navy, including 13 months' service on the USS Independence. He retired as a Lieutenant Commander. Following his Navy service, he had a 20-year career with Milliken & Company in New York City.
Ever since childhood, Hank was always a builder and re-builder, from electric trains to-kitchens and furniture. He restored several historic homes in Brooklyn, New York, and in Lynchburg, Tennessee, where he and Judy have lived in the first jail built in the town.
Hank had a love of history and served on numerous historic committees. At the time of his death he was serving as a member of the Moore County (Tennessee) Historic Commission. He enjoyed skiing, sailing, tennis, travel, and most of all, time spent with his Old English Sheepdogs, family and friends from his life in New York City, Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Lynchburg. Hank was a current member of The Little Club in Gulf Stream, Florida, and was a former member of The New York Athletic Club, The Norfolk Yacht Club and The Princess Anne Country Club of Virginia Beach.
He was a Presbyterian and was a staunch supporter of The Wounded Warrior Project. His ashes will be buried in Lynchburg Cemetery, Lynchburg, Tennessee on Sunday, May 30th, with a Celebration of Life following.
