Horace (Stretch) Weiss, age 92, of Delray Beach, FL, formerly of Virginia Beach, VA, passed away on July 17, 2025, in the caring hands of Trustbridge Hospice. He was born in Jackson Heights, Long Island, New York. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Peggy. He is survived by his daughter, Linda Weiss Cross, his son-in-law, Gregory Wayne Cross, his granddaughter, Rachel Lynn Cross, his sister Marie Devereaux, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and our wonderful extended McDaniel family. He was a member of St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus in Delray Beach. Stretch served in the Army as a Sergeant in the JAG offices as a court reporter in Pennsylvania and Virginia during the Korean War. After he was discharged, he began working as a court reporter for the Fourth Circuit, Eastern District of Virginia, Federal District Court in Norfolk, VA. For almost 35 years, Stretch, as a court reporter, transcribed many high profile cases during his lengthy career. His tall and slender stature and good natured personality was well known in the Walter E. Hoffman Federal Building. He and Peggy moved to Virginia Beach and in 1961 moved onto Lake Joyce in Chesapeake Beach. Living on Lake Joyce meant that boating, water skiing, fishing, and eating steamed crabs and raw oysters were his favorite pastimes. Later, he and Peggy began playing tennis. They became avid tennis players and fans and took many tennis vacations to Florida and to Hilton Head and enjoyed attending professional tennis tournaments and meeting the players. After Peggy passed away, Stretch moved to Delray Beach, Florida to be closer to his daughter, Linda. He resided at a retirement community, Abbey Delray (Cascades at Delray) for eight years before his passing.

Visitation will be held at the Hollomon Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, on Sunday evening, July 27th, 2025 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Graveside memorial services will be held at Princess Anne Memorial Park in Virginia Beach, VA on Monday, July 28th, 2025 at 11:00am. A memorial service will be held at Cascades at Delray, 2000 Lowson Blvd, Delray Beach, FL on Thursday, August 21st, 2025 at 11:30am, with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Trustbridge Hospice Foundation , St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church , The Wounded Warrior Project , and the JMU Foundation or a charity of your choice.
