Obituary

Dr. James K. Bowen, 80, from Kansas City, Missouri; Greeley, Colorado and Delray Beach, Florida passed
away peacefully on July 18, 2013. He was the beloved husband of Maureen (Maloney) Bowen. They were
happily married for 39 years. Jim was born in Medina, Missouri to Kenneth and Irene Bowen.
Jim was a United States Air Force veteran. He received his B.S. in Business and M.S. in Counseling and
Guidance from Kansas State Teachers College. Jim then earned his PhD in Psychology, Counseling and
Guidance and Special Education from the University of Wyoming. While at the University of Northern
Colorado from 1966 - 1994, he was an Associate Dean of Students handling Academic Standards, Dean
of Special Programs and Services, Professor of College Student Personnel Administration and developed
the nationally recognized program Resources for the Disabled. He retired as Professor Emeritus from the
College of Student Personnel Administration in 1994.
Besides his wife, Maureen, he is survived by his children Michael Bowen, Stacey Friebus, Melissa Bowen,
Debbie Brinster, and MSgt. James Bowen along with eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He
was the brother of Barbara Burks, Lois Bishop and the late Jeanne Way as well as the brother in law to
Eddie, Barbara, Jimmy, Peter, Jeffrey, Mari, and Tara Maloney (Parsley) along with Bob Burks, Lee Bishop
and Bob Way.
Funeral services will be held at the South Florida VA National Cemetery, 6501 South State Road 7 (441), Lake Worth, Florida, Lane 3 on Wednesday July 24, 2013 at
11:30 AM.
