December 9, 1929 – January 10, 2022
James L Dockerty (Jim) , 92, of Boynton Beach, and formerly Houston,Texas passed away at his
home with his family by his side on January 10, 2022. Born December 9, 1929 in Brooklyn,
New York Jim went on to attend St. John's Prep, then earned his bachelors degree from St.
John's University and his MBA from New York University. After serving in the Army, Jim
went on to spend 34 years as an executive at Shell Oil and retired in 1990.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years , Margaret Dockerty, his five children Maureen Dockerty
of Delray Beach, James (Suzanne) Dockerty of Coral Gables, Robert (Caron) Dockerty of Gulf
Stream, Laura ( Michael) Styslinger of Houston and Nancy Dockerty of Delray Beach.
Jim was the beloved grandfather to six wonderful grandchildren , Ben (Abigal) James, Olivia
Dockerty, Molly Styslinger, Daniel Dockerty, Robert Dockerty Jr, and Margaux Dockerty and
recently became a Great Grandfather to Wesley Dean James.
Jim who was predeceased by his 9 older siblings, 8 of which were sisters who kept an eye on him
and affectionately called him "Jimmy Dear" in classic "Brooklynese", was a devout Catholic, a
life long Yankees fan, enjoyed all sports especially his beloved St John's Basketball team . As a
young father Jim started all 5 of his children in swimming, with a few attaining national
championship level . Jim would drive the children to 5:30 am swim practice and return home to
begin his commute to the Shell Oil office in downtown Houston. He and his beloved Marge
would drive all over the country for swim meets. His children loved his famous Hoagie
sandwiches and legendary reuben grills and cole slaw. In retirement he loved reading his 3
newspapers every day and enjoyed traveling with his family, especially a trip abroad. Jim
enjoyed a happy hour cocktail with his children in his later years.
A wake will be held on Sunday, January 16, 2022 from 2pm-4pm at the Lorne & Sons Funeral Home, 745 NE 6th Avenue (North Federal Highway) Delray Beach. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday January 17, 2022, 10 AM at St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church, 840 George Bush Blvd., Delray Beach. Private interment with military honors will followed at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Cemetery in Royal Palm Beach.
