Obituary

James Wilbur Huff, 95, of Delray Beach, Florida and formerly of Williamsville, New York and Centralia, Illinois passed away on April 28, 2014.  Wilbur was born the 2 nd of 10 children of Helen and Al Hix Huff of Centralia, IL. Raised on a subsistence farm he was the first child to graduate from college (University of Illinois) with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He pursued a career in rubber manufacturing, owning and operating several companies in Buffalo, Lockport and Albion, NY. He retired in 1991 and moved to Delray Beach, FL which he called "Paradise". He loved the outdoors, watching birds, generally surveying his yard and planting all nature of shrubs, flowers and trees. All family members have starts of his Jasmine and Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow trees.  He had a lifelong interest in classical music, read extensively about the history of the United States and wrote personal memoirs of his family life during the 20's and 30's in rural Illinois. In his later years he kept in touch with his many friends and family members via the internet where there were frequent political discussions and much humor shared. More recently while suffering from Alzheimer's disease he became an amazing artist and one of his paintings is on permanent display at the Marcus Neuroscience Institute at Boca Raton Regional Hospital.  Over the years he also had a deep love for his pets starting with Beauty the cow from his childhood and more recently Chica and Jasmine, his Golden Retrievers.  His warm smile, witty sense of humor and his love of sharing all he knew will always be remembered.  He was the smartest man his family and friends have ever known and he could make anything work with a wire coat hanger.  Wonderful memories of joy and happiness will follow.  He leaves his loving wife of 70 years Mildred (Kueper) Huff; his 4 children, Diane Huff of Delray Beach, FL, Jim Huff (Jackie) of Tamarac, FL, Patricia (Hank) Smith of Lake Worth, FL and Susan (Gary) Maas of Elma, NY, 7 grandchildren, James Huff, Christine (Smith) Sadecki, Stephen Smith, Katherine (Maas) Campbell, Tricia Maas, Michael Huff and Marie Huff and 3 great-grandchildren Ryan Sadecki, Leah Sadecki and Evan Smith.  A private family service will be held on Friday, May 2nd.  In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to 211 Palm Beach/Treasure Coast (a crisis hotline), P.O. Box 3588, Lantana, FL 33465.
