Joan Ann Lanning, a resident of St. Andrews Estates, Boca Raton, FL, passed away on May 27, 2026. Daughter of Helen Walsh Cotter and John James Cotter, she was born in New York City on February 17, 1934. She was the beloved wife of the late Jeptha Holland Lanning.
She is survived by her brother, Jack Cotter of Highland Beach, FL, two nieces, a nephew and several cousins.
She was a graduate of Our Lady of Wisdom Academy, Ozone Park, NY, St. John's University, Jamaica, NY and she held a Master's Degree in Hospital Administration from St. Louis University. She was a member of the Daughters of Wisdom, a Catholic religious order, for a number of years. She held positions as a hospital pharmacist on Long Island, a hospital administrator in Brooklyn and Executive Director of the Mental Health Association in Dutchess County, NY for twenty years while a resident of Poughkeepsie. Upon retirement, she and Jep moved to Delray Beach, FL where she practiced pharmacy, was active in the St. Lucy Parish, Highland Beach and in her condominium, Coastal House. She resided at St. Andrews Estates, an Acts Retirement-Life Community, since 2015.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 5, 2026, 11:00 AM at St. Lucy Catholic Church, 3510 S. Ocean Blvd., Highland Beach, FL 33487. Entombment will follow at the Boca Raton Mausoleum, 451 S.W. 4th Ave., Boca Raton, FL 33432.
