John Mayo, 80, passed away peacefully at home in Delray Beach, Florida on Sunday, September 28, 2014. John was born, John Francis Meo, on August 12, 1934, in Port Chester, New York, to the late Philip and Ester Meo.
John attended Port Chester High School. He was in the Army's 82nd Airborne Division and later worked as a sheet rock taper. In January 1973, John married Clara Valona also of Port Chester.
John and Clara moved to Delray Beach, Florida in 1995. After moving to Delray Beach, John worked for JCD Sports Group for over 19 years working initially at Delray Beach Golf Club and then transferring to Lakeview Golf Club when the City bought the course in 1996. John will be missed by all at JCD as he was not just a co-worker...he was a part of the JCD family.
John is survived by his children; Dominick Mayo of Mahopac, NY, Patricia LaValle (husband Ferdinando) of Stamford, CT; and John Mayo, Jr., (wife Anita) and his five grandchildren; Christina Mayo, Marissa Mayo, Dominick Mayo, Alexander LaValle and John Mayo. John is predeceased by his wife Clara Mayo, who he loved dearly; his brothers; Ralph Mayo, Frank Mayo and Phil Mayo and his sisters; Laura Clifford Holloway, Pauline Mayo and Pauline Howland.
John was an avid golfer and played golf weekly even until his last days. He was proud to be an American and to have served his country. John was a friend to many and loved by all. Those closest to him will remember him most for his kindness, generosity and steadfast love.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass, Friday October 10, 2014, at 10:30am, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Port Chester, NY.
