Jon A. Mackenzie's Obituary
Jon Alexander MacKenzie, 61, of Delray Beach, FL, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2017, after a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. He was the deeply beloved husband of Connie MacKenzie of Delray Beach.
Born February 2, 1956, in Abington, PA, Jon and Connie met in the 1980's after their mothers, who were friends, insisted they would be a great match. The pair married 30 years ago, on July 4, 1987, and have been inseparable ever since. Jon spent his entire career as a devoted, well-respected employee of the U.S. Postal Office. He had a knack for winning radio contests, which enabled him and Connie to enjoy one of their favorite pastimes traveling to fun and exciting destinations. Jon's other interests included working on cars, tackling house projects, and most of all, spending time with the love of his life, Connie. The pair loved to explore the outdoors together hiking, kayaking, bicycling with their cherished friends Pam and Audrey. They cooked together, relaxed together, and enjoyed glasses of white wine together. Jon's genuine friendly and easygoing personality, marked by his great sense of humor and welcoming nature, is what drew people to him. He greeted everyone with a smile and warmth that immediately put people at ease. He cherished family, friends, and good times, and was quick to point out the positive or the humor in a situation, which allowed him to live each day to the fullest. Generous and welcoming to friends, family, and former students of Connie's kindergarten classes, all loved to gather with the MacKenzies, where they were sure to have a wonderful time.
Jon is survived by his loving family, his wife Connie, his brother George and sister-in-law Mary, and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Monday, September 25, 2017 at Lorne & Sons Funeral Home 745 Northeast 6th Avenue Delray Beach, FL, 33483. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church 840 George Bush Boulevard Delray Beach, FL 33483.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Moving Day, a Walk for Parkinson's at https://movingdaywalk.org/
