Obituary

José Manuel Betancourt, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2024. Born on January 6, 1952, in Cárdenas, Cuba. José's life was marked by resilience, passion, and love for his family and the sea.

José came to the United States in 1962, settling in Miami and later in Key Largo, Florida. It was in Miami that he met the love of his life, Nancy, whom he would wed and cherish for 45 years. Together, they raised three wonderful children—Joey, Melissa, and Michael. As a devoted father, José instilled in his children the values of hard work, love, and continuous learning.  José was constantly analyzing how things work or how things were made. This ongoing curiosity fueled his passion for building and fixing things.  He could take apart an entire engine and know how to put it back together.  He took pride in all that he did and enjoyed sharing his knowledge and experience with others.

An avid boating enthusiast, he spent countless hours navigating the beautiful waters of south Florida, where he felt most at peace. Whether casting a line, taking part in water sports, cruising along the bay, or simply enjoying the gentle sway of the boat, José found solace and joy in the open waters.

José's legacy will be remembered as one of love and dedication. He was a man who gave his all to those he held dear, and his memory will live on through the stories shared by his family and friends. His loving spirit will continue to inspire those who were blessed to know him.

José will forever be cherished in the hearts of his beloved Nancy, his children Joey, Melissa, and Michael, his brother Gus, his sister Mimi, his five grandchildren, and family and friends who will carry forward the love and values he so generously shared.

Family and friends may come on Friday, October 25, 2024 from 11:30am to 1:30pm at Lorne and Sons Funeral Home, 745 NE 6th Ave, Delray Beach, FL 33483.  A cryptside service will follow at 2:30pm at the Boca Raton Mausoleum, 451 SW 4th Ave, Boca Raton, FL 33432.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, an organization José held close to his heart. Contributions can be made by clicking here.
