Obituary

On October 31, 2014 retired Air Force Lieutenant General Joseph R. De Luca peacefully left his earthly family and friends to join his beloved wife, Doris, of 60 years, his two sons, Pat and Joel, and treasured ancestors to begin his next journey. We were blessed to have loved him and been loved by him, and the world is a better place for having had him 96 years; all too short for us.
Joseph De Luca, son of Italian immigrants, proved that with hard work and determination the American dream can be achieved. His distinguished military career spanned 35 years, which he served with great pride and integrity. He served in World War II as well as the Korean and Viet Nam conflicts. Drafted as a private in February 1942, he rose through the ranks, diligently continuing his education and exceptionally performing his duties as an Air Force officer. He often joked that as the children in his family increased, so must his military rank, hence his promotion to Lieutenant General and Comptroller of the Air Force. He was later called on to manage the US Strategic Petroleum Reserve Program as well as several other enterprises.
He and his wife retired to Florida in 1985, and enjoyed the last 12 years living in Floral Lakes, where he was active for 9 years as leader of Current Events. Together, with his wife, he raised 8 children. He led by example with an attitude of gratitude. His wit was sharp, his humor was great, his integrity was high, and his emphasis was family love. A lifetime of memories will help fill the void in the hearts of his 6 surviving children: Casey, Barbara, Teresa, Mike, Tina and Marisa as well as their spouses, 13 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and all who were blessed to have known him. May this great man rest in peace. We know he's earned it. Until we meet again…
A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday November 6, 2014 at Emmanuel Catholic Church, 15700 S Military Trail, Delray Beach, FL 33484.
