Obituary

Kenneth Seeberg Bronkie, 68, passed away November 5th, 2013. Ken was predeceased by his parents, Willis F. Bronkie and Fern Seeberg Bronkie, his brother Peter and his first wife, Elizabeth Sayle. He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Kay Bronkie, his children, Elizabeth Genet Bronkie, Chad Kenneth Bronkie, Erika Kay Bronkie, and Mikel Kane Bronkie and sister, Lynn Bronkie.
Born in New Haven, Connecticut, Ken was raised in various South American countries as a youngster as his father was a Mining Engineer. In his teens, Ken spent many school vacations in the remotely located Chivor emerald mine in Colombia learning the emerald business first hand from his father. While in high school Colegio Nueva Grenada, in Bogota, Colombia, Ken played basketball. He also played football while studying in the United States.
Ken worked for the family gem business, Willis F. Bronkie Greenfire Emeralds, in Nassau, Bahamas for 10 years and then in Bogota, Colombia for the home store. Ken was an avid boatsman in the Bahamas with legendary boating skills… In landlocked Colombia Ken enjoyed camping with the family, riding his motorcycle, billiards, darts, and hosting many special events for his friends.
After moving the family to Delray Beach in 1985, he was able to get back to the sea and took his family to the Bahamas every summer for several weeks. He enjoyed being Captain Ken, scuba diving, teaching his kids boating skills, directing the First Mate, and taking his family and friends out fishing on his 42' Post Sports fishing boat named Greenfire. He was an avid golfer and won many tournaments at the Boca Raton Hotel and Golf Club.
He was happiest on the sea and earned his official Captain's license in 2006 in order to transport boats for others, a career he had to forgo after an accidental fall in 2010. His last 3 years were strife with struggles, but family and community support helped him throughout his days. His journey through adversity taught us all that life's challenges bring new opportunities and that every moment of life is precious. In the grand scheme of things it's not wealth, perfect health, nor the admiration of others that matter; it is love that brings you absolute happiness.
