Kenneth Winston Williamson was born in Manchester, Jamaica on August 20, 1920 to Charles and Catherine (nee Hanson) Williamson. However Ken's step father, Charles Powell raised Ken from an early age.
Ken attended Manchester Elementary and High School and in school he developed his love of reading which he never lost. Ken came to the US while in his 20's to "improve his quality of life" and enhance his education. Afterward he returned to Jamaica and worked for several years. However, during this time he began to develop ideas for starting his own business. After returning to the US, Ken met the bride of his life, Hyacinth, also from Jamaica and they were married in the US, on August 20, 1952; Ken's 32nd birthday.
Eventually, Hyacinth and Ken bought a house in Brooklyn, but later in 1965 while house hunting for a new house in Queens, NY, Ken surprised his bride by proclaiming he wanted to start his own business; instead of buying a new house. Ken convinced Hyacinth that if he was successful, they would buy many more houses. Ken lived to see his dream come true.
Ken was a devoted husband and father, to two children, Katherine and Gregory. Hyacinth and Ken loved to travel and did this extensively throughout the US and Africa.
Ken is survived by his wife, Hyacinth, son, Greg, grandchildren, Kamilah and Kyle; two sisters, Daisy Westra and Flo Brown; brother, Kirkland Powell; cousin, George Baker; and many nieces, nephews and other close family and friends.
