Obituary

Leslie Ernest Scace was born on February 15, 1925 in London, England. He passed from this life on May 5, 2017, surrounded by family and friends in Delray Beach, Florida.

Leslie was a faithful husband to his wife Helen of 62 years. He was a seaman who served Great Britain in World War II before he spent many years working in food service on passenger ships. He met the love of his life while working on a passenger ship travelling to Bermuda. They married on October 8, 1954. After a brief stint in New York, Helen and Leslie settled in Delray Beach, Florida where he served many a drink and a story as a long-time bartender at the Arcade Tap Room. After he retired, he was a volunteer at Bethesda Hospital for many years. Leslie was a loving husband, a caring godfather, a watchful neighbor, and a dear friend. He will be remembered for his colorful spirit, his uncanny knowledge for various statistics, his beautiful orchids and his kindness to children.

He is survived by his loving wife Helen McParlan Scace, brother-in-law Ed McParlan and his wife Bernadette, many nieces and nephews including Rosemary and Terry Thorne, cousin David Scace, and his godchildren David Leslie McParlan and Katie Fellows Christie, as well as dear friends Trish Roland, Cory Cassidy and Ann Bryant. The family would like to offer a special thanks to Steve "George" Izzo who was a dear caregiver to Leslie during his final months. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chelsea Football Club or the Bethesda Bargain Box.
