Obituary

Bright as a new penny and twice as lucky, Loretta "Nana" Preston (née Dietrich) dealt her last hand on April 29, 2024, at the spry age of 79, in sunny Delray Beach, Florida. Born to the world stage on December 18, 1944, in Reading, Pennsylvania, Nana played her roles - from doting mother to shrewd accountant - with both glee and grace.

As a partner at Schmidt & Kammerer, she made numbers dance more elegantly than Fred and Ginger, and her sense of humor was as perfectly balanced as her ledgers. Nana was the life of every party and the heart of her family, always ready with a twinkle in her eye and a trick up her sleeve.

A connoisseur of good gin and great times, Loretta's bridge games were the stuff of legend—full of laughter, strategic genius, and perhaps just a hint of mischief. Her motto? "Life is like accounting; everything must balance, except when it doesn't, and then you have a story to tell."

Leaving behind a legacy richer than the pot of winnings at the end of a bridge marathon are her sons Kent, Craig, and Keith; her adoring fan club of grandchildren Blake, Magan, Matthew, Rachael, Luke, Scott, Luke, Lennon, and Victoria; and one very special great-grandson, Evan, who's already showing a penchant for high-stakes peekaboo.

She reunites in heaven with her late husband, Peter Preston—no doubt already engaged in an eternal card game—and her brothers, Robert J. and Dennis E. Dietrich, who likely have a few "I told you soo's" at the ready.

The final curtain call will take place at Lorne & Sons Funeral Home, 745 NE 6th Ave (North Federal Highway), Delray Beach, Florida 33483, on May 11, 2024, at 2:00pm where tales of Nana's escapades will be shared with laughter, a few well-placed wagers, and maybe even a gin toast. So here's to Loretta—a life well-played, forever the queen of our hearts, and a woman who always knew when to hold 'em and when to fold 'em.
