Obituary

Lucia Yapp, age 100 ½, died peacefully in Boca Raton, Florida on May 21, 2022, after a very long and happy life.

She was born in Lowell, Massachusetts, to Kevork and Elizabeth (Mardigian) Chertavian. Lucia graduated Lowell State Teacher's College in 1943, and taught school for 19 years in Chelmsford, MA and Lowell, MA before spending 21 years teaching 1st and 2nd grades at North and South Schools in Stoneham, MA. She retired in 1983.

Teaching was her first love, though she was equally passionate about her Armenian heritage. Throughout her life she worked to improve her Armenian language skills and she loved cooking Armenian delicacies for her family. Above all else, she was lovingly devoted to her three daughters.

Lucia enjoyed staying busy and rarely sat down unless reading the newspaper. For two years, Lucia and her husband, Harold, crisscrossed the USA in a travel trailer before choosing a condo in Delray Beach for their winter home. Over the years, she lived in Lowell, MA, Winchester, MA, Hampton, NH, Upland, CA, Delray Beach, FL and Boca Raton, FL. It was in Delray Beach that Lucia and Harold learned to play bridge, a game she loved (along with BINGO) and continued to play throughout the rest of her life, until COVID and poor eyesight put a stop to it.

She is predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Harold Lockwood Yapp, her parents, and her three brothers, Diran Chertavian (Dee), Dr. Levon Chertavian (Lev) and U.S. Navy Captain Armen Chertavian (Chet).

She is survived by her three daughters: Elisabeth Mary Yapp (Lisa) and her partner, Lee Wills, of New York City, Karen Louise Yapp and husband, Richard Offerman, of Pleasant Hill, CA and Lucinda Joyce Yapp of Carrollton, TX, plus numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. We will miss her always.
