Nelson McMurrain was born in Enigma, GA on February 5, 1928 to J. T. &
Lucille McMurrain and passed away on May 26, 2013. The family moved to
Delray Beach when he was 9 years old. He was involved in sports at Delray
High School as a teenager and then joined the Navy and was discharged as
a Seaman 1st class. He married Pauline Thieme in 1949 and then joined FPL
where he worked for 44 years. Nelson was a coach for the Delray Rocks
Youth Football League and Delray Little League in the 1970's sharing his
love of sports and children. He is survived by Pauline, his wife of 65 years
of Delray Beach, FL, daughter, Deborah Hotchkiss (Mike) of Boynton Beach, FL,
sons Nelson McMurrain, Jr. (Eunice) of Chuluota, FL and Paul McMurrain
(Philly) of Cape Coral, FL, sister Juanita McDuffie of Ocala, FL, 9
grandchildren, Matthew Hotchkiss (Stephanie) of Orlando, FL, James Hotchkiss
of Boynton Beach, FL, Anne Usman (Naveed) of Lake Villa, IL, Kate Hotchkiss
of Denver, CO, Victoria McMurrain and Christopher McMurrain of Chuluota, FL,
Shea McMurrain and Rylie McMurrain of Cape Coral, FL, and Alan Yura of Dania,
FL. Nelson was predeceased by daughter Patricia Reed and grandson Justin
Yura. Visitation hours will be on Monday, June 3, 2013 from 10AM to 11AM with an 11AM funeral
service at the Lorne & Sons Funeral Home, 745 N. E. 6th Avenue, (N. Fed Hwy) Delray Beach.
He will then be laid to rest with military honors at the South Florida National Cemetery,
6501 State Road 7, Lake Worth, FL. The family requests in lieu of flowers, that contributions be
made to Hospice of Palm Beach County or The American Legion-Milton Myer Post 65, 263 NE 5th Ave.,
Delray Beach, FL 33483 in memory of Nelson.
