Margaret T.
Dockerty
March 16, 1932 – April 17, 2024
Margaret Teresa Finucane Dockerty, (Marge) 92, of Boynton Beach, and formerly Houston, Texas passed away at her home with her family by her side on April 17, 2024. Born March 16, 1932 in Queens, New York to Walter and Marie Finucane. She was raised in Richmond Hill. After high school Marge met her future husband Jim while they were both working in Manhattan. Jim asked his friends, "Who is the girl in the red shoes?" and they soon began dating. Jim proposed by hiding her engagement ring in a Chiclets box. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 68 years, James Lee Dockerty.
She is survived by her five children Maureen Dockerty of Boynton Beach, James (Suzanne) Dockerty of Coral Gables, Robert (Caron) Dockerty of Gulf Stream, Laura (Michael) Styslinger of Houston, and Nancy Dockerty of Delray Beach. Margaret was the beloved grandmother to six wonderful grandchildren, Ben (Abigail) James, Olivia (Richard) Novak, Molly Styslinger, Daniel (Courtney) Dockerty, Robert Dockerty Jr, and Margaux Dockerty and a great grandmother to Wesley Dean James.
In support of her husband Jim's career with Shell Oil, the family moved five times. Marge dedicated herself to quickly making each new house a loving home.
Marge was a devoted mother, always stressing the importance of education and faith. She made many sacrifices so that her five children could attend the best private schools and universities. She was a devout Catholic attending mass daily throughout her life. Marge was active in her Catholic Church, having started The Joseph's Coat resale shop in 1987 at St. John Vianney Parish in Houston, Texas. Marge received a hand-written letter from President George H W Bush recognizing her as one of the "thousand points of light" for her commendable voluntarism.
In her later years, Marge, affectionately known just as "Nana", enjoyed traveling with her family. One of her favorite trips was taking the Orient Express train from Paris to Venice with her son Bob and daughter-in-law Caron. She also enjoyed dining out with her kids and grandkids, and loved having cocktails "on the Ave". She was an ardent fan of a White Russian cocktail. Marge was very proud of her Irish heritage. In honor of her 90th Birthday, she was recognized as the Sweetheart of Ballylongford, Ireland with a float in the 2022 Delray Beach St. Patrick's Day Parade. As a sign of their special and close connection, Marge and Jim both amazingly lived exactly 92 years and 32 days.
A wake will be held on Sunday, April 21, 2024 from 2PM to 4PM at Lorne and Sons Funeral Home, 745 NE 6th Ave, Delray Beach, FL 33483. Her Funeral Mass will be on Monday, April 22, 2024, 11AM at St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church, 840 George Bush Blvd, Delray Beach, FL 33483 followed by a private burial at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Cemetery in Royal Palm Beach.
