Obituary

Mario Montenegro, a long-time resident of Delray Beach, Florida passed into eternal life on April 19th, 2018, at the age of 91.  Mario was born on April 25, 1926, in Bronx, NY.  His parents, the late Virginia and Vincent Montenegro, had 6 children, and Mario was the youngest.  Mario was preceded in death by his siblings, his wife of 24 years and mother of his children, Anna Kapeller Montenegro, his second wife of 35 years, Helen McDougal Montenegro, and daughter-in-law Deborah Montenegro.

Mario proudly served in the armed forces (Army) during WWII and the Korean War. He wore his veteran ball cap with pride. Mario had a true entrepreneurial spirit, working mainly in the food service industry, until he retired to Delray Beach in 1977.  He was well known for his words of wisdom, and often encouraged his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Mario was never afraid to try something new. He saw each new venture, whether successful or not, as valuable and was eager to pass this ideal along. Mario certainly loved his family and had a strong devotion to the Blessed Mother who helped him overcome many battles, often through the rosary.

Mario is survived by his daughter, Lorraine (Jerry) Pino; sons, Lawrence (Alice) and James (Patty); grandchildren, Mario (Jasmine), Derek (Danielle), Jessica Vincent(Michael), and their mother, Yvonne Montenegro, Theresa (Chris) Kuehne, Kathy (Ty) McCormick, Ana and Gina Montenegro. He is also survived by 31 great-grandchildren (his pride and joy), many nieces and nephews (who were instrumental in his life), his sister-in-law, Lillian Kapeller and his dear friend, Lillian Weiss.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 27 th , from 8:30 AM to 10:00 AM at Lorne & Sons Funeral Home, 745 NE 6 th Ave. (North Federal Highway), Delray Beach, FL.  A funeral mass will follow at 11:00 AM at Emmanuel Catholic Church, 15700 S Military Trail, Delray Beach, FL 33484.
