Obituary

Marsha Lynn Love, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Luther Love, Jr., passed away at her Delray Beach home on February 14, 2020, at the age of seventy five. Marsha was the granddaughter of James Luther Love, Sr., Delray Beach's first registered pharmacist and great niece of Delray's first doctor, Roy Cason.

True natives of south Florida, Marsha's family settled in Delray Beach in 1905.  After graduating from Seacrest High School, Marsha attended Florida State University, where she served as an officer of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.  Marsha was very involved in campus life and was recognized by Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities for her contributions.  Marsha completed her master's degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and went on to the University of South Carolina where she founded a new chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma.

Upon her return to Florida, Marsha worked as Assistant Dean of Student Affairs at Florida Atlantic University.  Her love of teaching, swayed her to leave her administrative position in favor of returning to the classroom as adjunct professor of English at Palm Beach State College.

Marsha had a passion for life's present, as well as for preserving its past.  From Love's Drugs to the Cason Cottage, Delray is overflowing with Love family history of which she was so proud.

Marsha's passion for her family roots led her to an extensive genealogical exploration, uncovering an intricate family tree dating back to England of 1489.  Marsha formed lifelong connections through the friendships she cultivated while doing this work.  It was due to her meticulous research that she was able to enjoy such societies as the Colonial Dames of America and Order of the Crown and celebrate the family's rich heritage.

An active member of the Delray Beach Historical Society, Marsha was elected president in 1986 just after serving as president of the Junior League of Boca Raton.  Marsha diligently worked to preserve the history of Delray for future generations. She blessed our family with newfound knowledge of our history, which was an exceptional gift.

Marsha's creative eye led her to a career as interior designer with Tulane Kidd Interiors before opening her own design company, Marsha Love Interior Design.  Marsha was also able to express her creativity through the written word.  An award-winning author (Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018), Marsha published children's books, "The Vitamin Parade," and the historical fiction, "The Cat at Cason Cottage." She greatly enjoyed sharing her most recent rough drafts with her grandnephews.

Marsha loved living in Delray Beach, a town filled with lifelong friends and rich in family history.  Marsha was a scholar with a deeply creative spirit and talent for all things beautiful.

Marsha is survived by her loving sister Andrea Love Goodman, brother-in-law John Goodman, her cherished niece Ashley Love Barnard along with nephew-in-law Cameron Barnard and the apples of her eye, grandnephews Carter James Barnard and Hudson Burr Barnard.

A service and celebration of Marsha's life will be held at Cason United Methodist Church at two o'clock on the afternoon of February 27, 2020.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Delray Beach Historical Society, Reading is Fundamental or the donor's chosen charity.
