Mary Elizabeth
"Beth " Wilder Simon
November 15, 1930 – October 31, 2023
Beth passed away peacefully on the evening of October 31st surrounded by her loving family. Beth's strength and courage gave her so many sunrises and sunsets during her 93 years of life. As a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she lived in Delray Beach Lake Ida neighborhood for 65 years. Married to Roy M. Simon in 1961, whom she met playing volleyball on the municipal beach in Delray Beach after moving from South Carolina.
Beth was born November 15, 1930, in Lavonia, Georgia. Her parents, Howard, and Ruby Wilder and two sisters, Dot (deceased) and Terry Jane (age 96), moved to Anderson, South Carolina, which became their home. Graduate of Anderson University and attended Winthrop College, Beth also attended Ringling Art School in Sarasota. As a teacher of art, her love and passion for painting gave her so much pleasure throughout her life as she would love to create gifts for all expressing her view of life in color. She also loved to sing, dance and play the piano. Roy and Beth were always the first on the dance floor. As a stay-at-home mom, Beth shared her talents with her children and all she knew, giving them the opportunity to be better versions of themselves.
Beth was involved in the Delray Beach and surrounding community as a member of the local Jubileers Club St. Paul's Church, and the Delray Beach Library. One of Beth's proudest accomplishment was being on the steering committee for the creation of the Delray Affair where she was responsible Reception for the many local authors of library books and poetry which was set up in what is now the Railroad Lot in downtown Delray Beach. Beth was also extremely active as a volunteer when the children were in school. Attending all sporting events, chaperoning events, building floats for parades, hosting meetings or parties at the house, building sets for performances, Beth was always involved and present.
A true southern woman, mom, Beth, B, Aunt B, Nana, Mrs. Simon, always had a beautiful smile on her face and would welcome you with open arms like she had known you forever. Her southern charm and wisdom would send hopeful messages to all she encountered. Beth leaves behind her husband, Roy, and a great legacy in her children, Michael (Charlene), Laura Lee (Sven), Chris (Claudia), grandchildren: Madison, Derek, Solenne, Troy, Nolan, Blair and Cruz and great grandchildren: Saylor, Ryder, Emily, and Henry. Her strength, determination, fortitude, beauty, and perseverance led her through so many obstacles of life with grace. She is a true "Steel Magnolia".
Beth lived her life with intention and would want us all to remember that "it is not the years in your life that count, but the life in your years." Most of all she would want everyone to make sure they "save room for dessert".
Celebration of Life memorial service for Beth Simon will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 12pm at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 188 S. Swinton Ave, Delray Beach, FL 33444. Please dress in beautiful bright colors or Sunday bests as you are able in honor of our mother. Beth had specific wishes for her funeral service which will be honored by her family later in December.
In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the Delray Beach Historical Society in Beth Simon's name or to your favorite local charity. Beth was a survivor of Breast Cancer and does know the value of more research and would be grateful for contributions to help save the lives of other women.
