Obituary

Mary Augustus VanKuyk Van Boekholtz, 99, formerly of Boynton Beach, Florida, passed away
peacefully on May 13, 2026, at Boynton Beach Rehabilitation Center after a difficult final year.
Her family takes comfort in knowing she is now free to move, speak, and rejoice with the angels.

Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ernest VanKuyk, and her son, Rudolph
VanKuyk. She is lovingly remembered by her children and their families: Steven VanKuyk of Cape
Coral (Jeremy and Jason); Jeanette and David Goodmanson of Boynton Beach (Erica and Jeffrey);
Marcelle Hitlett of Boynton Beach; Henne and Bob Rausenberger of Lewisburg (Byron and
Adrian); Paul and Debbie VanKuyk of Boca Raton (Joseph and Steven); and Amy and Craig
Tillman of Princeton (Alex, Eva, and Kate). She was also blessed with 10 great-grandchildren
who brought her enormous joy.

Mary's life journey spanned continents and cultures. She was born in Indonesia, later moved
to her homeland of Amsterdam, and eventually immigrated to the United States, where she
settled in Hoyt Lakes, Minnesota. Her later years were spent in Boynton Beach, Florida.
Mary was known for her warmth, generosity, and vibrant spirit. She devoted many hours
volunteering at the Boynton Beach Library and enjoyed working with the church ladies at St.
Thomas More Catholic Church. She treasured friendships, loved hosting luncheons, and made
everyone feels welcome.

An exceptional Indonesian cook, Mary delighted her family by preparing homemade favorites
such as bapao and gado-gado for her grandchildren. Some of her happiest moments were
spent entertaining family at her beach house in Vero Beach. Swimming and tennis were
among her favorite pastimes, and she carried an active, social spirit throughout her life.
Mary will be remembered for her strength, grace, laughter, hospitality, and deep love for her
family.
